more monsters than gods

Oh. My. God. It will forever continue to astound me how people with money and intelligence can throw it all away to some bastard with Microsoft Publisher or FrontPage that will create for them the shittiest website you’ve ever seen. Specifically, I am referring to the so-called “Signature Sites by CompuWeb, Inc.”

Check it out. This dolt’s work includes the official sites of such theatre and film greats as Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, and Sean Astin, and movies Gods and Monsters and Spinal Tap. Please tell me if those are not some of the most disgusting, ugly-ass websites you’ve ever seen. He also takes credit for the websites of Brendan Fraser and Billy Boyd at times, but both show signs of being designed by people far more literate, talented, and able. That is to say, they don’t suck and they don’t advertise being designed by Keith Signature Stupidhead.

I very nearly sent him a note through his comment form: “Please throw away your copy of FrontPage and learn how to design real websites so you can do these people justice.” At the last minute, though, I stayed my hand by thinking that perhaps he was just some poor friend that got roped into throwing together a couple websites. Unlikely, but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt before being so directly and callously insulting.

On a side note, though, I do very much admire Brendan Fraser’s website, which was designed by him “and his hip friends.” It’s very much how I would like to build my website – with an interesting design and as just an outlet for me and any creativity I may have. I have such troubles creating artistic designs from scratch, though. I guess I should start by “stealing” and work my way up from there, like many good artists.
