sci-fi’s battlestar galactica

I enjoyed the mini-series and the beginning of this season’s full-length series. That said, it’s begun to go downhill: last night’s episode in particular was pointless at best.

First off, I have no qualms with Starbuck being a woman. It’s different, to be sure, and I miss the old Starbuck, but I think Katee Sackhoff pulls it off well – most of the time – and I do like it to a certain extent just because it is different. This last episode, however, did not need to be made, and that is no fault of Starbuck’s. Yes, we understand that the Commander and Captain Adamas are upset about Zak and Starbuck’s role in his death. Yes, we understand that they are human and can be blinded by emotion and feelings. But no, we did not need to see an entire episode about that, an entire hour where they can apparently be so blinded that they don’t realize they are putting all of humanity at risk. This could have been a subplot of some other episode condensed into less time and less stupidity so that they aren’t made out to be such raging idiots. And what the hell is with Helo on Caprica? Could we start seeing some relevance to that plotline? You had some good ideas, now get some better writers. I thank you… *steps off soapbox*
