Whoa, I can’t believe this one went under my radar until now. The original Anarchy Online (i.e. none of the expansion packs) is now available free. Good idea to bring in some new players and potential customers. I was a beta tester for it but I never played it because their servers sucked ass. I’ll give it a shot now, though, I guess.

Oh right, there’s a little proviso: free only until Jan 15th 2006

quick autopackage follow-up

I mentioned autopackage previously. I’ve used it to install the last two minor versions of Gaim and it has worked great. Still don’t entirely know how it works, but from what I could tell from the installation it went out to a central server to grab some stuff, then asked me to install a dependency that it couldn’t get by itself. If more packages could be made available, this would be a great distribution-neutral Painless Installation Tool. Ah, the long search for good clean PITs…
